We show you exactly how to cook frozen waffle fries in the air fryer so they come out crispy, golden, and perfectly cooked every time. Our easy method works with any brand like Alexia, Trader Joes, or any other store brands you love!

Why You'll Love Our Recipe Method!
- Fast and easy - Cooks in less than 15 minutes.
- Crispy, golden results - Thanks to the circulating air in the fryer
- Healthier than deep frying - Less oil and no greasy mess
- Works with any brand - Alexia, Trader Joe's, Ore-Ida, Whole Foods, and more
- Perfect for any meal - Pair with burgers, ribs, or chicken tenders
We use our air fryer almost daily to make fast, healthy meals, and frozen waffle fries are one of our favorite sides (actually anything resembling any type of french fries or sweet potato fries are our favorite side!) Whether you're throwing together a weeknight dinner or building a plate of game day snacks, air fryer waffle fries cook up hot and crispy every time.
My husband's go-to is frozen air fryer tater tots, but I'd argue these waffle fries are even better. They're crispy on the outside, fluffy in the middle, and fun to dip in anything from ketchup to fry sauce.
Ingredient Notes
- 1 lb bag of frozen waffle fries (we love Alexia!)
- Optional: avocado or olive oil spray
- Optional dips: ketchup, ranch, chipotle mayo, BBQ sauce
📝 Tip: No need to thaw, you can cook them straight from frozen for best results!
Air Fryer Waffle Fries Time and Temp
- Temperature: 400°F
- Time: 14-15 minutes
- Flip or shake: After 8 minutes
🔧 Pro Tip: Cook in a single layer for the crispiest fries. If you're cooking a full bag, you'll want to work in batches so air can circulate.

How to Air Fry Frozen Waffle Fries
- Preheat air fryer to 400°F for 3-5 minutes (or use your model's preheat setting).
- Add frozen waffle fries in a single layer to the air fryer basket or tray.
- Optional: Lightly spray with oil and season if desired.
- Air fry for 8 minutes, then flip or shake the basket.
- Continue cooking for 6-7 more minutes, or until golden and crispy.
- Serve hot with your favorite dip or alongside your main dish.
Best Crispy Tips!
- Preheat for at least 5 minutes to get crispier results
- Don't overcrowd the basket and cook in a single layer
- Flip halfway through to ensure even crisping
- Oil is optional, it's great for extra crisp but not necessary since many brands preseason and oil their waffle fries
- Avoid cooking spray (like Pam) on nonstick baskets; it can damage the coating

Our Favorite Brands
- Alexia - Seasoned and crispy, perfect every time
- Ore-Ida - Classic fast food-style waffle fries
- Trader Joe's - Occasionally stocked, cooks up fast
- Whole Foods 365 or store-brand - Budget-friendly, check for added sugar or gluten if needed
FAQs
Can you reheat waffle fries in an air fryer?
Yes! Preheat the air fryer to 400°F and cook leftover waffle fries for 1-3 minutes until warm and crispy. No need to flip-they reheat fast!
Why aren't my waffle fries crispy?
Most likely they're overcrowded, your air fryer wasn't preheated, or there wasn't enough airflow. Spread them out and cook in batches for the best crunch.
Can I air fry sweet potato waffle fries?
Absolutely! Preheat to 400°F, cook for 8 minutes, flip, then cook another 6-7 minutes. They crisp up beautifully just like regular waffle fries.
