Ingredients Overview
- Frozen boneless skinless chicken breasts: A lean, high protein cut that cooks well from frozen with the right timing
- Olive oil: Helps the seasoning stick and keeps the chicken from drying out
- Seasoning: Simple salt and pepper or a chicken seasoning blend both work well
- Optional sauce: Adds extra flavor and can be brushed on during the final minutes of cooking
Note: The full list with measurements is in the recipe card below.
Key equipment: Air fryer and a digital meat thermometer.

How to Air Fry Frozen Chicken Breasts
Step 1: Preheat the air fryer to 360°F. Starting with a hot air fryer helps the frozen chicken begin cooking evenly right away.
Step 2: Place the frozen chicken breasts in a single layer, breast side down. Brush with olive oil, sprinkle with seasoning, and cook for 10 minutes.
Step 3: Flip the chicken, brush with more olive oil and seasoning, and continue cooking for another 10 minutes. Check the internal temperature and continue cooking until it reaches 160°F.
Step 4: If using sauce, brush it on after flipping. Remove the chicken one minute early, add more sauce, then return it to the air fryer for one final minute.
Step 5: Let the chicken rest for 5 to 10 minutes before serving. The temperature will rise to 165°F and the juices will redistribute.
Substitutions and Variations
- Use your favorite chicken seasoning instead of salt and pepper
- Brush with BBQ sauce, buffalo sauce, or honey mustard during the final minutes
- Slice the cooked chicken for salads or bowls
- Use the same method for meal prep chicken for the week
What to Serve with Air Fryer Frozen Chicken Breast
