Like many recipes, cooking your own homemade peanut butter and pumpkin dog treats at home is SO easy, you'll definitely cut back on the store-bought treats after you realize how simple it to make our 4 ingredient homemade dog treats.
We love giving these pumpkin dog cookies to our furry friends since they're high in fiber and the pumpkin helps to keep their stools regular.
After our 11-year-old labs were BOTH diagnosed with terminal cancer and stopped eating their regular dog food, we instantly switched to making them homemade dog treats and food.
What you'll need
With just 4 common pantry ingredients in our peanut butter pumpkin dog treats recipe, it's easy to whip up a batch in less than 20 minutes!
- old fashioned oats, preferably gluten-free rolled oats
- large egg
- pumpkin puree without sugar (not pumpkin pie filling)
- natural peanut butter (no sugar)

Variations
Instead of Pumpkin- You can swap the pumpkin for mashed banana, unsweetened apple sauce, or mashed sweet potatoes.
Instead of peanut butter - Use almond butter or any type of nut butter without sugar your dog enjoys.
How to make peanut butter and pumpkin dog treats
- Preheat your oven to 350 F.
- Combine the pumpkin puree, egg, rolled oats, and peanut butter in a small bowl.
- Spoon the mix by the tablespoon onto a cookie sheet covered with parchment paper (or use can use a Silpat). Add the uncooked mix by Flatten them slightly with the flat edge of a fork. The recipe will make about 10 treats.
- Bake the dog cookies in the oven for 10-12 mins.
- Cool for at least 1 hour before feeding them to your pup.

- The homemade dog cookies can be stored on the counter for up to a week when stored in the fridge. They can also be frozen for 1-2 months.
- Be sure to purchase peanut butter that doesn't have sugar added, it's usually called natural peanut butter. Either smooth or chunky will work.
- The cookies won't spread on the pan during baking so you can adjust the size as desired to make either smaller bite-size dog biscuits or larger ones. You'll of course need to adjust the baking time if you change the size of the treats.

Our dog isn't eating much with his cancer and these are terrific to help keep him regular since they're high in fiber. We feed him 2-3 DIY pumpkin dog biscuits per day, which is about 120 calories.
Your pet's dietary needs might be different based on what they eat in a day, their size, and their activity level.
The homemade dog cookies will keep for up one week in the fridge. Freeze the well wrapped treats for up to 2 months in the freezer.

If you're wondering about serving pumpkin to dogs with cancer, it's a fabulous vet approved food to give them and what our family vet recommended to us. Definitely check in with your vet to make sure it's ok for your pet to eat pumpkin.
An added bonus with the pumpkin is that it helps their digestive system and keeping they're doggie poos regular (although a little orange).

- 3 tablespoon natural peanut butter (no sugar)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 F
- Add all ingredients to a small bowl and mash until well combined.
- Add the uncooked mix by the tablespoon onto a cookie sheet covered with parchment paper. Flatten slightly with the flat edge of a fork.
