A homemade alfredo sauce keto recipe is a fantastic and versatile sauce if you're on a ketogenic diet. It's very low in carbs, gives you needed fats, and is especially delicious when served over zucchini noodles, chicken, in casseroles, and over broccoli.
Making your own low carb alfredo sauce takes less than 10 minutes, you'll never buy a jarred Alfredo sauce again once you realize how simple and delicious homemade alfredo can be! It's a WHOLE LOTTA YUM!
Keto Alfredo Sauce
Alfredo sauce is hands down both of my kids' favorite pasta sauce, it's what they both seem to order whenever we go out to eat. Unfortunately for them, having a food blogging mom that can't eat wheat is the pits.
While most homemade alfredo sauce recipes probably don't have sugar or extra carbs in them since an authentic Alfredo sauce recipe is just a combination of cream, butter, parmesan, garlic, and seasoning, the carb-laden pasta is a rare treat in our home.

Ingredient Notes
The alfredo sauce keto recipe only has a few simple ingredients, many of which you probably have on hand at home.
- heavy whipping cream
- shredded parmesan cheese
- butter, cut into pieces
- sea salt
- ground pepper
- garlic cloves
Sauce Instructions
Making the alfredo sauce keto recipe is truly a piece of cake. I seriously swear once you see how easy it is to make, you'll never go back to store-bought alfredo sauce again.
Melt the Butter
Melt the butter in a medium-sized saucepan over medium-low heat.
Add Remaining Ingredients
Add the cheese until it's melted, stirring constantly, which only takes a few minutes. Add the heavy whipping cream, minced garlic, salt, and pepper, and combine all ingredients together.
Simmer
Bring the alfredo sauce keto ingredients to a simmer and cook one minute longer, or until the sauce is heated through.
Serve the low carb alfredo sauce over zucchini noodles, other types of spiralized vegetables, over shrimp, or over chicken.
Keto Alfredo Chicken with Zoodles Steps
Additional ingredients:
- 1 recipe of keto alfredo sauce (from above)
- 1-2 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 lb zucchini noodles
- 1 lb pre-cooked chicken (pre-cooked shrimp works great too!)
- Garnish- Fresh parsley (optional)
Keto Alfredo Chicken with Zoodles
Heat 2 tablespoon olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
If you are using a nonstick skillet, you can reduce the olive oil to 1 tablespoon.
Cook the 1 pound of zucchini noodles in the pan for 4-5 minutes. 4 minutes will make an “al Dante” zucchini noodle that’s still slightly crisp and is bright in a green shade.
About 5 minutes will make a softer zucchini noodle and the green zucchini color starts to fade. Both options taste delicious, it’s just a matter of personal preference.
Drain the zucchini noodles. Zucchini is about 90% water and without draining, makes for a pretty runny sauce once your actual sauce gets added later on.
Return the zoodles back to the pan and turn the burner to medium-low. Add the alfredo sauce (either part of the batch or all depending on how saucy you like your zoodles). I usually mix in part of the batch and then serve the rest on the side.
Cook the keto alfredo sauce and zoodles on low until everything is heated through. Top with warmed rotisserie chicken.
Serve and enjoy!
A Note About the Chicken
Adding precooked chicken is a fantastic way to add protein to this dish but still make it a quick and simple meal.
Buying a pre-cooked rotisserie chicken is super easy, if you have a Costco near you, their rotisserie chicken prices are hard to beat.
One of my favorite ways to cook chicken in bulk and to store it in the freezer for fast recipes is to cook frozen chicken breasts or frozen chicken tenders in an instant pot.
Just slice or shred the chicken before adding. Using pre-cooked shrimp instead of chicken also makes a fantastic alternative.
Common Questions
How Many Net Carbs in Alfredo Sauce?
Keto alfredo sauce just has 2 net carb per serving, making this a terrific low carb sauce option if you're following a ketogenic diet. To keep the carbs down as much as possible, read labels to make sure the heavy whipping cream has 0 net carbs and always buy full-fat dairy products.
Is Classico Alfredo Sauce Keto Friendly?
For those times when you're in a hurry and don't have time to make a low carb alfredo sauce from scratch, Classico brand is a good alternative. Classico has 3 net carbs per serving, which is slightly higher than the homemade version.
How Long Does Alfredo Sauce Keep?
The alfredo keto sauce recipe will keep for up to 5 days in the fridge. The sauce does thicken considerably when it cools if you reheat it and it's thicker than you'd prefer to add more cream or even almond milk to thin the sauce a bit.
