8ozfresh mini mozzarella ballsOften called ciliegine or bocconcini
1lbcherry tomatoes
24+ fresh basil leavesone package
1tablespoonbalsamic glaze
Instructions
Thread a mozzarella ball, a small fresh basil leaf, and a cherry tomato on a toothpick. Keep threading the ingredients onto toothpicks until you have as many made as needed.
Arrange on a platter or plate and drizzle with balsamic glaze right before serving. Sprinkle salt and pepper to taste.
The recipe makes 24 mini skewers but it's easy to make as many as you want.
Notes
Balsamic vinegar can be used instead of balsamic syrup. You can make longer ones by using bamboo skewers instead of toothpicks.Make-ahead tips: These can be made up to 24 hours in advance when stored in an air-tight container. Be sure to add the balsamic right before serving as it starts to absorb into the cheese and will turn the cheese brown. These are best served cold.Other variations include making mini antipasto skewers on a toothpick by mixing in the Caprese ingredients with prosciutto, olives, or salami. To make a vegan variation, use avocado cubes instead of fresh mozzarella balls.
