Cooking breakfast sausage patties in the oven is an easy way to cook a larger amount of sausage hands free compared to frying sausage over the stovetop. So easy!
1lb+ breakfast sausage pattiespre-shaped or from a tube
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 400F.
For easy clean-up, cover a baking sheet with parchment paper, foil, or spray your pan with non-stick cooking spray.
If you have a sausage tube, slice the sausage into even slices. Place the sausage patties in a single layer on the baking sheet leaving space in between the patties.
PRO TIP: Sausage patties can shrink and form rounded disks when baking. To prevent this, press a dimple (about ¼" deep) in the center with your finger. This pushes more of the meat towards the outer edges and your sausages will bake flat.
Bake the sausage patties for a total of 18+ minutes, flipping them over around half-way through cooking (after 8-9 minutes).
Cook the sausage until the internal temperature reaches at least 160F+, which is easy to test with a digital cooking thermometer. Pop them under a broiler for a minute if you want them even browner. Enjoy!
Notes
Any brand of breakfast sausages will work in the recipe, as will the flavored varieties, popular options are Johnsonville or Jimmy Dean.
To lighten things up turkey sausages can be swapped for the pork, the baking time could change slightly.
We highly recommend using a digital meat thermometer to test for doneness since all ovens can vary.
If you're baking frozen sausages, break them apart before baking. They'll take about 21-23 minutes to cook. Due to moisture content, they might not brown as well, just broil them 1 minute to get a skillet finish.
If you're cooking homemade breakfast patties they could be larger or thicker than the store-bought patties which come pre-shaped and will possibly take longer to cook.
