4tablespoonof butteror 1 tablespoon of cooking oil
saltpepper, garlic powder seasoned to taste
Instructions
Preheat your air fryer to 370 F for 4 minutes
Melt butter, either in the microwave or in a skillet
In a bowl, toss shredded frozen hashbrowns with melted butter, until evenly coated.
Place hashbrowns in the preheated air fryer in an even layer. Depending on your air fryer, you may need to stack your hashbrowns on one side and not cover the entire basket or multiply the recipe. If your hashbrown layer is too thin it may dry out or burn.
Cook at 370 F for 10 minutes.
Stir the hash browns rather than flipping, and gently pat them flat with a spatula. This helps to get the most even browning.
Continue cooking for an additional 3-5 minutes, depending on desired crispiness.
Immediately season the shredded hashbrowns before removing them from the basket. Enjoy!
Notes
Hash browns are usually made with salted butter. This will give them the best flavor and prevent them from drying out. Alternatively, you can toss the frozen hash browns (shredded) in oil, or you can spray them with cooking oil once they are in the air fryer basket. With any approach I recommend being generous with the oil/butter, you do not want chips like hash browns. The ideal hashbrowns are buttery, salty, and have a golden crunch on the outside with a soft potato-y inside. After the hash browns are cooked, you can season them with whatever you like. I chose sea salt, coarse ground pepper, and garlic powder. But any seasoning salt will work. Just be sure to season immediately after cooking for the best results.
