Making Fish Sticks (Air Fryer Method)
Be sure to read through the steps before you start cooking. While cooking frozen fish sticks in air fryer may seem pretty easy, we are including some tips that will ensure your fish sticks come out amazing the very first time!
Temperature
We love to cook the majority of our air fryer snacks on 400F. We have found that it's the perfect temperature to create light and crispy air fried fish sticks with breading as quickly as possible.
Preheat your air fryer to 400F for 3-5 minutes.
If you're using a non-stick unit like our Farberware air fryer, do NOT add cooking spray to the basket. If you have an air fryer oven with an aluminum basket, it IS fine to add a spritz of cooking oil or cooking spray to help prevent sticking.
Lay the frozen fish sticks in air fryer in a single layer in the preheated air fryer with a little room to breathe on all sides. You don't want to stack the breaded fish sticks because it prevents them from getting as crispy and may leave some spots undercooked.
Cooking Time
Cooking the air fryer frozen fish sticks takes about 10 minutes. We did NOT need to flip these in our basket style air fryer, it did a good job browning both sides, but you can flip the fish sticks if preferred. It should take most air fryers 9-10 minutes to get fish sticks lightly crisp. If you prefer your frozen fish sticks to be browner, it is fine to add a little additional cook time - just be sure to keep an eye on them.
We suggest checking the air fryer fish sticks with breading after 5 minutes of cooking to make sure it is evenly cooking, if yours aren't, by all means, you can flip them over to get them evenly brown and crisp.
Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce like ketchup or tartar sauce. Enjoy!
Recipe Tips
- Keep your frozen fish sticks or fish fingers in the freezer until the air fryer has had time to preheat.
- Some models do not recommend cooking sprays as it can potentially damage the basket, so read the directions that came with your air fryer.
- To cook frozen fish, there needs some air between them, so be sure not to overcrowd your fryer and cook the frozen foods in single layers. Cook in batches if necessary.
